Admission Open For DNS Feb 2014 Batch:
DNS LEADING To Bsc Nautical Science(IMU & DGS Approved):
1 year DNS Course consists of 2 semesters and exams are conducted by Indian Maritime University, Chennai. After passing the exams the cadets will be awarded Diploma in Nautical Science by the University. On completion of the course, the cadet’s career path will be as follows.

ENTRY
REQUIREMENTS
Educational Qualification:
1. Pass in 10+2 examination from a recognized Board / University with Physics, Chemistry
and Mathematics (PCM), with not less than 60% marks in PCM aggregate.
OR
With Physics as an individual subject in any one of the years of B.Sc., with not less than
50% marks in the final year of B.Sc., from a recognized University provided that the
candidate must have passed 10 + 2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and
Mathematics (PCM) from a recognized Board.
OR
B.E./B. Tech. or it‟s equivalent degree from I.I.T. or from a college recognized by
AICTE/UGC
And
2. Should have passed with not less than 50% marks in English as a separate subject, at
either 10th or 12th standard or in the Degree programme conducted by a recognized
Board/University.
Age Limit:
Should not more than 25 years. The age limit is relaxable by 2 years in case of female
candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.
Physical and Medical Standards:
Medically fit as per the standards set by Merchant Shipping Medical Examination Rules, 2000 as
amended from time to time.
Eye-sight:
6/6 in each eye without visual aids. Normal colour vision. Candidates may have to undergo a
full eyesight test conducted by the Mercantile Marine Department (MMD) before being finally
selected for the programme.

is mandatory for all the candidates to qualify in the Common
Entrance Test conducted
by
IMU to seek admission in B.Sc., (Nautical Science) programme of IMU
irrespective
of
whether their candidature is sponsored by a Shipping Company/DGS
approved (RPS
registered) manning agent or
not.
IMU-CET ENTRANCE EXAM 2014:
The Common Entrance Examination shall have 200 objective type multiple choice
questions each carrying one mark distributed in six subjects which are to be attempted in
3 hours duration.
These six subjects are as follows:
English 25 questions
General Knowledge 25 questions
Reasoning Aptitude 25 questions
Mathematics 50 questions
Physics 50 questions
Chemistry 25 questions
The Common Entrance Examination shall have 200 objective type multiple choice
questions each carrying one mark distributed in six subjects which are to be attempted in
3 hours duration.
These six subjects are as follows:
English 25 questions
General Knowledge 25 questions
Reasoning Aptitude 25 questions
Mathematics 50 questions
Physics 50 questions
Chemistry 25 questions
APPLICATION FOR SPONSORSHIP TEST
:
Conducted by shipping companies.
Candidates are strongly recommended to apply for Sponsorship Test Being Conducted By leading shipping company & Colleges.
Various employing shipping companies/ their manning agents registered with the
Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai may also advertise for the programme for
selection of candidates for sponsorship clearly mandating that all such candidates will
have to appear in the Entrance examination to be conducted by IMU, for which the
candidates shall make separate application to IMU. In case of Sponsored candidates, the
companies are free to select IMU-CET qualified candidates of their choice and to set their
own „add-on‟ criteria of selection (Psychometric test / Written test/ Interviews/ Higher
passing percentage in eligibility educational qualification examination etc.) provided they
meet the minimum eligibility as prescribed in “Eligibility” given. All such aspirants must
qualify in the IMU-CET Entrance examination. Thus, they need to additionally apply for
the Common Entrance Test of IMU. For the Sponsored candidates it would be sufficient
that they are declared qualified in the Common Entrance Test and are sponsored by the
Shipping Companies / DGS approved (RPS registered) Manning Agents. All such
Sponsored candidates who qualify in the Common Entrance Test conducted by IMU shall
be selected by the Shipping Companies / DGS approved manning agents who sponsor
such candidates for admission to be made at the respective Training Institute having tieup
with such companies.. Thus, in case of sponsored candidates, this allocation of
Training Institutes is directly done by the sponsoring shipping companies / registered
manning agents and accordingly these sponsoring shipping companies / registered
manning agents shall communicate to the Sponsored candidates as well as IMU the name
of Training Institute allotted to them as per the tie up between the sponsoring shipping
companies /registered manning agents and the Training Institutes.
Sponsorship is the assurance given by the shipping companies, to give placement
(On-board Training & Cadetship) after the successful completion of the DNS course.
