One year Pre-Sea Diploma in Nautical Science leading to B.Sc Nautical Science

[1] Admission to this programme is offered on the basis of qualifying in the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by IMU twice a year (January/February and July/August). Details are available at IMU Website : http://www.imu.tn.nic.in.
[2]  The duration of the course is 1 year (Semester 1 & 2) and is residential at the Institute.
[3] On completion of Course/Exams, successful candidates are awarded Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) by IMU.
[4] The candidates are now Eligible to join as Deck cadet on any Ship and need to complete 18 months Sea-time (Semester 3, 4 & 5) with Distance Learning Program (DLP/SSTP) on board. Successful candidates are awarded Advanced Diploma in Nautical Science (ADNS) by IMU.
[5] Semester 6 needs to be completed on shore, comprising of required post-sea COurses and passing Second Mate (FG) Competency Examination conducted at the MMD (Mercantile Marine Department). On successfully passing Certificate of Competency (COC-2nd mate FG) will be issued by DGS and B.Sc. (Nautical Science) Degree will be awarded by IMU.
[6] Candidates are now eligible to be promoted as 3rd/2nd Officer with 2nd Mate-FG COC.
[7] Further on completing the required Sea-time and successfully passing further Exams they can be promoted to Chief mate and later to Captain level.
