DECK OFFICERS DEPARTMENT

 

Deck Officer

 

The Deck Officer has skills in all aspects of the Navigation of ships, cargo handling operations and storage, ship stability, ship maneuvering and ship management. Navigation today uses both satellite and other electronic means but a fundamental understanding of more traditional techniques is still vital to cope with all possible situations. The ultimate goal of the Deck officer is to become Master of his/her own ship; Candidates must have leadership skills and man management.

There’s Two (2) Courses for Deck Department:

• Diploma In Nautical Science (D.N.S)-1 Year  Leading To B.Sc Nautical Science
• B.Sc Nautical Science – 3 Years

How to Join

Candidates must be 10+2 PCM in addition he/she must meet requirement and clear one of the following entrance test

1.      IMU CET 2023 Test conducted by Indian Maritime University.

2.      10+2(PCM min 60% marks + English min 50%marks). Entrance test of approved Nautical Institutes.

 

Entry Requirements

Requirements	For Deck Cadets
Age	For Class XII: Not less than 17 years & Not more than 20 years as on date of commencement of the course For B.Sc. in PCM or Electronics: Not more than 22 years as on the starting date of the course For B.E./B. Tech. Degree from I.I.T or a college recognized by AICTE: Not more than 25 years as on the starting date of the course
Marital Status	Unmarried
Academic (Results must be obtained at FIRST attempt)	Results should be obtained at FIRST ATTEMPT All Boards (Class XII): Minimum Percentage – 60% PCM minimum – 60% (For Andhra Pradesh & Kerala State Board, separate board exams held for each class(11th & 12th) & hence, aggregate of both marks are considered) BSc: Degree in Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Electronics with minimum 55% in final year along with Min 55% in PCM in Class XII BE (Mechanical) Engineering: Degree from an AICTE/UGC Deemed University Approved Institute with min 55% in final year
Medical	Physically fit and meet the standards laid out by DG Shipping*
Language	English shall be one of the subjects with minimum marks scored 50% in class X or XII
Eyesight	6/6 vision in both eyes (without visual aids); no colour-blindness

 CCandidates Must Have To Qualify & Secure Good rank To Get Admission For 1 Year DNS Course.

Career Path - DNS leading to B.Sc (N S)

·         1-year Pre-sea Training

·        A minimum of 18 months Structured Shipboard Training Programme (SSTP) and

·         6-month course ashore

·         2nd Mates Written and Oral exams

·         Award of COC as 2^nd Mates (FG) by DGS

·         Award of B.Sc. (Nautical Science) degree by IMU

 

++ Then the 3rd Officer

B.Sc Nautical Science

·         2nd Mates Oral exam Conducted by DGS

·         Award of COC as 2^nd Mates (FG) by DGS

     ENGINE OFFICERS DEPARTMENT     

Engine officer

Engine officers mainly deal with the maintenance of various kinds of machineries found on board ships. There is a long list of such machineries and they include the main engine or the main propulsion plant, the auxiliary power generators, boilers, pumps, inert gas systems and so forth. Needless to say when a ship is built these machineries are fitted at that time in the ship building yard but since a ship is almost continuously on the move these machineries require constant preventive as well as breakdown maintenance in order to keep those machineries in proper operational condition. The ultimate goal of the Engine officer is to become Chief Engineer of his/her own ship.

B. Tech Marine Engineering - 4 years

The curriculum for the 4-year B. Tech Marine Engineering Course includes the requirement of STCW Convention of IMO and that of the Directorate General of Shipping, Govt. of India for competencies required for Engineer Officer in Charge of a watch.

The B. Tech Marine Engineering Degree Course is a 4-year fully residential course comprising of 8 semesters and includes training on Ship-in-Campus during the seventh semester. On successful completion of the term end examinations conducted by the Indian Maritime University, a Degree Certificate is awarded. Furthermore, successful candidates are entitled for exemption from the Class-IV, 

Part-A Examination of the Directorate General of Shipping.

·         Complete Required Sea time as 3rd/2nd Assistant Engineer

·         Preparatory post-sea training obtain 1st Assistant Engineer COC

·         Complete Required Sea time as 1st Assistant Engineer

·         Obtain Chief Engineer (Foreign Going) COC Sail as Chief Engineer of the Ship
